That’s why it does not matter which yarns you use and how big the difference is between the yarns are, that you are using for the snowman and the accessories.
The head of the snowman we crochet from top down in spiral rounds with only double crochet stitches. Thereby the head is properly filled and stuffed. The remaining thread end is needed later to attach the head to the body.
The arms for the snowman we crochet from the fingertips to the shoulders in spiral rounds with just single crochet stitches. In the front part we only put a little less filling, so we will get a nice hand palm.
The legs for the snowman we crochet from the toe tips upwards in spiral rounds with only single crochet stitches. Thereby the feet are filled firmly, while the legs are filled loose, to they will be movable later.
Until you finished crocheting all parts, we can make them a crocheted snowman. Before you start you should necessarily put all the parts together with pins. So you can see the right positions and it´s easy to correct something.
First, we sew together the head and body with the openings facing to each other. Here you are using the long thread end from the top and work your way around to the two openings. If you´ve never done that before, the tutorial about sewing open parts together may help.
Next you can sew the arms next under the head. Either horizontally folded flat or movable with thread joints, like described in the Tutorial for Thread Joints.
Now you can paint your snowman some red cheeks into his face with fabric or acrylic paint.
To crochet the hat for the snowman just use the Pattern for a Beanie with half double crochet stitches. I crocheted all rounds of the upper part with red. For the lower part I started with white and changed the colour each round. Then I made red ear flaps as shown in the Pattern for Ear Flaps for Every Hat at the 1st variant. At least follows the last round with red and after weaving in the thread ends, the hat is already finished.
Now follows the scarf, made with the Pattern for a Scarf with half double crochet stitches crocheted at the length. Here I changed the colour every row and so I had to weave in a lot of thread ends. But the look of the beautiful red and white striped scarf has made it worth.
